Luxman PD-291 Direct Drive Turntable (sold)This turntable has the smoothest full auto operation I have ever seen. The arm is moved by a voice coil arrangement similar to the head arm on a hard disk drive. Position detection is optical for zero intereference. Akai AP-005 Vintage Turntable (sold)Nice example of a notable model. Belt drive with a big synchonous motor providing plenty of torque and quartz like accuracy from the 50Hz mains. There is a separate mains motor to move the arm for full auto operation. Technics SL-1401 Professional Turntable (sold)One of a handful of Technics home/studio turntables that are based on the SL-1200 DJ turntable. Same motor and quartz electronics. The torque starts, stops and changes speed in a quarter of a turn and is strong enough to rotate against a brush or cloth as you remove dust from a disc.Same arm as a 1200, low friction with damped queing lever. The 1401 has auto return, manual start. Heavy cast alloy plinth with the arm and platter semi floating on it's own suspension for extremely good isolation. Technics SL-120 Vintage Professional Turntable (sold)The 120 is the forerunner of the famous SL-1200 and has a cast alloy body, strong direct drive and heavy platter with strobe.
